Aim of the day was to try a couple of CV flavours that i had been advised to try by forum members, specially for the colder months, so last night i made some expanders in 4mm and 6mm low oil the CV expanders are great for this because they take on flavour really well almost like a time bomb so when they are under water the flavour slowly gets released into the water. so i pumped them with flavour and put them in a small food bag and put a tiny drop of the flavour into the bag and blew air into it and tied a knot, whacked them into the fridge and got them the next morning, by now the pellets have firmed up good for the waggler and pole alike.

TIP: if your going to use the pellets for the pole you can afford to have the pellets a bit softer so, put a bit more liquid into the bag before you put them in the fridge nicely coated pellets, nice a soft and more appealing to the fish.

So i arrived at the lake at 10.00am, and it looked like the sea at Blackpool, massive waves on the water which wasn't going to aid things, but i walked around the back of the lake to find a nice corner where there was bushed behind me (nice cover), i set my MAP pole with a power kit 14-16 drennan pink carp bungee elastic, which was set soft because there are lots of skimmers in this lake, more than carp, i plumed up at 3 meters out, i couldn't go any further due to the wind blowing the pole everywhere, i put mu pole cup onto the pole tip, i decided to use this today due to the cold weather just over 10oC at it's best, the wind wasn't helping cooling alot of things down and the reeds around the outside have just started to die back and leaves are slowly but surely falling of the trees around the lake all the signs of winter creeping in.

I then went off to speak to a local on the lake that i have spoke to before, and he was saying that he had a few bream and 1 carp but it snapped him, he was on caster and said that the lake has slowed right down. There was another 12 anglers on the lake with hoods up and watching a quiver, but didn't seem to get many bites and when they did they were only small fish due to the weather.

My feed today was normal micro pellet low oil, no flavours just a simple feed so i put a couple of small pole pots in, wasn't sure ehat to expect so i fed cautiously, my rig was set up at 4ft deep to fish an inch over depth with a 4lb mainline and a 4x12 Chianti pole float (one of my favourite all round pole floats) tied to a PR28 size 18 hook. First was the seetcorn pellets and i put on a 4mm pellet, and straight away i had a small roach, after this it went dead for an hour so i changed to a 6mm pellet stilll sweetcorn, and i had a bream just that little change in pellet size brung a bite just shows you how important these things are. I stepped up my feed and a picked off another skimmer, nice just under a 1lb and then i changed to a pineapple flavoured 6mm pellet, and the float dipped and then dissappered a carp of about 3lb, i could tell it was cold due to how slow the float was going under and how slow they were fighting.

So after slipping the fish back i had some dinner and threw a few pellets in to keep them there, after dinner i was into the skimmer again all on pineapple flavouring 6mm pellets. It went quiet and the wind picked up once again and the floated slipped away and i was into anothe carp a bigger fish this time a real chunk, about 6lb or just under a good fish due to the weather, it put up a real scrap aswell testing the line i was on.

As you can see a nice fish by all means, i then had another carp at about 3lb but on pineapple again 6mm pellet. By now bites had started to dry up again so i changed to a 4mm pellet and i hooked a carp that shot off, but the hook pulled but that is why it is called fishing .

So overall i had a great day 3 carp and 1 lost, lots of skimmers and 1 roach. Since i have been with Carp Vader my catches have definatly improved and just by changing a pellet size or flavour, you can reep the rewards . Pineapple out fished Sweetcorn flavouring today but another day i think sweetcorn flavouring might out fish something else, but these two liquids will be in my bait bag this winter, that is for sure!!!

I will make a feature on "How to Make the Perfect Expander"
My nickname is the "Pellet Guru" by a few of the locals.

Just thought i would up date you all.

So i settled on peg 20 with a big bay in front of me, all the guys around me were shooting out pellet wagglers as this is the no.1 tactic on this lake and and the match lake, but i chose to go for the feeder approach because all, the bait they were firing in was eventually going to the bed of the lake so i took advantage of this. . Anyway i set up a basic rig reel line was 6lb Power Steel, today i was using one of the best little inventions ever, the drennan feeder bead and swivel anti tangel system, the best i have used. and a short hook length of 6lb stroft line to a size 16 Maver MT4 barbless hook with a pellet band in the hair rig as pellet would be the main attack also a small drennan grippa feeder 15g. my rig below,

I bought a sidewinder aswell today £5.99 and wanted to know what they are like and if you are thinking about getting one, then get one they are great, keeps you one step ahead of the fish

So my bait today, well just a few micro pellets soaked in water and a good soaking of CV Breamax, with the guys next to me picking off the chub and a few carp, i thought i would have a good chance, so put a 6mm pellet in the band and filled the feeder with micros and slung it out into the bay within 10 seconds the tip went round and i was in to a roach about 1lb nice fish, slung it out and i was waiting for 30 mins until a carp ripped off not big about 2lb but a nice fish, by now it was 2.30pm and my fellow anglers were catching roach and rudd not many carp, but my swim was like a jacuzzi electric but i waited and another carp was in the net about 5lb nice fish, so i put another feeder load out with a 8mm pellet in the band this time and waited with 15 mins gone i didnt think it was going to go until the rod nearly shot of the rest, i grabbed it but the carp had snapped the hook link off big fish, i reeled in and tied on another hook by now i had 4 carp and a roach and it was 3pm, most of the anglers around me were packing up, so i tried something different i made some paste up using the micros with the breamax on and so i had a gold ball size hook bait and cast it out into the fizzing bay, and within 5 seconds the sidewinder went around and a carp of 6lb was in the net very nice fishthe next fish snapped me again so i tied on a bigger hook a 14 with the same setup and paste covered hookbait and cast it out the carp kept coming one after another, the other anglers had packed up and gone but an older guy sat on the next peg to me and fished the pole down the edge and caught two carp when i had 6 in the same space of time, at the end of the day i finished at 4pm with 11 carp and 1 roach on a breamax paste covered pellet. and i enjoyed the short trip will do this again!!!

My Bait

Arrived at 10am and i picked a peg close to the car park and my niebourgh was next to me, the idea today was a confidence booster after fishing alot of matches, so i mixed up a bag of summer groundbait which is full of an aniseed smell very strong , i cupped in 3 balls at 5 meters and fished chopped worm over the top and i had activity straight away, a nice 1lb Tench rolled into the net and i went straight back over and the float bobbed and then buried and a nice skimmer bream was in the landing net, after continuing all morning over the groundbait i set up another rig to the lillies on my left about 4 meters out and chopped up some corn and worm and cupped it in, and fished over it, with corn and it wasn't long before the elastic was out and a nice healthy 6lb 2oz common was in the landing net, the rule here is no carp in keep nets except crucian carp, so away it went, i chopped and changed between worn and corn and i had 4 carp in the space of 2 hours.

So i fished 2 foot from the bank for the rest of the day, on maggot and feeding the groundbait and i was bagging on the small roach a few bigger ones thrown in, and then i hit a shoal of bream nice bream to about 1lb all on maggot on a 20's hook. i had 10 crucian carp in the time i was fishing in front of me, and with only 1 hour to go before i was going to pack up it went dead so i through in more maggots and then the float buried i struke and i was into a bigger fish i didnt know what it was but being on 2lb line and 5-8 dual core elastic i wasn't going to find out SNAP it snapped me by the connecter on my pole so i lost all my rig, gutted with the loss i stayed on for another hour and had a few more crucians and rudd, my neibourgh next to me had 10 carp and 4 tench in the day on mussel, fishing in front of him.

My swim in front of me...

I wieghed my keepnet and it tipped the scales to 6lb dead of bits so a good day had by all the only let down was the weather heavy rain all day, but didnt ruin the fishing.

Keepnet..

My rig went in at 12.30pm after speaking to some other locals that know me and they werent catching, so i was doubtful i dropped in to the left down the edge and a few sloppy micros went in creating a lingering cloud and a carp vader expander with pred plus went in over the top, and i was into my first carp not big but good enough hooked nicely in the mouth.

The day went on and bites got harder i had another 4 carp all small, on polar pellet, i could see the big fish but they werent interested i could see the tails coming out of the water, then later on 4.45pm i put a pred plus pellet over the top and i hit something abit bigger not massive but a very welcome carp.

After this i went up in the water shallow on the pole with a polar pellet on and i had about 20 small roach a few bigger ones chucked in.

All in all a good day had soaking up the sun, you really do have to try sloppy micros they make a great cloud. My Carp Vader T-shirt was in the wash covered in slime

Regards

 Comments

Fishing 22/07/08

Well, i decided to head out today to my local about 25mins drive from my house i got everything ready last night and chucked it into the garage ready for this morning, my plan of attack today was pellet and flavours and going after the good head of carp in one of the lakes. So i chose:

*Carp Vader Polar 6mm hookers
*Carp Vader Micros Polars
*Carp Vader Breamax Hookers
*Carp Vader Strawberry Flavour
*Carp Vader Beta Marine Flavour
*Carp Vader Pred Plus Flavour

So i got to my peg on the lake and i set up everything my pole and plumbed up about 3 pole sections out on the bottom about 3 foot deep, i had reeds to my right and left, and lillies to my left in the corner so i had alot of cover for the fish to run to, so i had to bear that in mind when i hooked one, so i pumped my pellets and soaked my micros.

As you can see i have Strawberry, Beta Marine and Pred Plus, and the micros soaked.
I also founs that if you cover the micros pellets and so they go sloppy it is great because you can pot them in with the white juice that comes off them and it creates a cloud that sinks slowly and lasts for 10 mins in the water, so i did this and within 10 mins and a polar pellet on the hook i had my first carp in the net didn't have my scales so i couldn't tell how big. excuse the hair!

After that it went quit for 30mins so i put more feed in, and bang 5 times i hit carp in the space of 15 mins but all came unhooked i was gutted, i was putting some pellet hooks through their paces but wasn't happy with them, as i always use Kamasan Animal hooks, these tied to stroft you could land a scuba diver, they are very strong. Then i put another pot of sloppy pellets in and a Breamax pellet on and i hit into another carp this one looked like a 9lb fish but again i didn't have scales just a camera, it buried the float and hooked itself, so a great take the best all day and it was hooked perfectly in the mouth. Excuse the hair!

I then hit a shole of Bream all over a 1lb, followed by roach all on strawberry pellet so they all had a sweet tooth all caught on the expanders with strawberry over a bed of micros, later on the carp moved back in and i had another two about 4lb each nothing overly big but carp, the guy accros from me in the afternoon caught a 18lb 4oz Mirror Carp, i went and helped he was an elderly guy and it was his PB so i took a picture for him on his camera and he was over the moon, he was only using 6lb line so i bet he was glad he landed it.

Overall i had 15 carp only landed 10 because of these new hooks i was trailing, 4 Bream and 2 roach.
My rig was Carp Bungee Elastic, 8lb Stroft straight through to a 14 Pellet Hook, drennan carp 1 4x12 and stotz.

When i packing up i was gutted i knocked off the open tub of Breamax pellets and fell on the peg face down and i lost 90% of the pellets through the slats in the peg i managed to recover a few for my next outing and this is the pellet i had my big carp on! Never mind.
